Course Overview
AT(SA) is a competency-based accountancy qualification and membership designation offered by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), the foremost accountancy institute in South Africa. The Certificate in Accounting is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to excel as Accounting Technicians. This single module carries credits towards the Further Education and Training Certificate: Accounting Technician (SAQA 77143, NQF level 4).
- Demonstrate an understanding of the role of costing within the organisation
- Advise on the most appropriate costing methods to use in an organisation
- Understand the principles of using costing as a decision-making tool
- Record and analyse information relating to costs
- Apportion costs according to organisational requirements
- Correctly identify any significant deviations and report these to management
- Use a spreadsheet to enter, edit and organise numerical and other data
- Select and use appropriate formulas and data analysis tools and techniques to meet requirements
- Use tools and techniques to present and format and publish spreadsheet information

Course Material
The course fees include a comprehensive textbook (electronic and print) which includes exercises and review questions. Students also have access to the atMyConnect portal for revision tests.
Assessment and Award
Each Module will be assessed through an online exam offered at an accredited examinations centre. Examination fees included (first attempt only, thereafter re-write fees apply)
Students who have successfully completed this study Module will receive a statement of results indicating the credits achieved. Credits achieved in this Module accumulate towards the Further Education and Training Certificate: Accounting Technician (SAQA 77143, NQF level 4) awarded by the Finance and Accounting Services Sector Education and Training Authority (FASSET). To ensure ongoing professional development, this qualification leads to Accounting Technician membership of SAICA.
Entry Requirements
Learners accessing this qualification must be competent in language, literacy, communication and mathematical literacy at NQF level 3.
