Course Overview
Make a positive impact in the world.
If you like the idea of helping people and, you probably have a lot of knowledge, skills and wisdom to share with the world. You have figured it out that everything you know, and everything that anybody else knows had been passed down from one person to another. Every piece of knowledge is something that has been shared by someone else. When you understand this, mentoring becomes your true legacy. It is the greatest inheritance you can give to others.
Becoming a mentor is a great privilege. You get the opportunity to allow another person to see the hope within themselves. There is a specific way in which you as a mentor can impart this wisdom so that your mentee can benefit and learn optimally from your examples. Remember, you do not have to be employed by an organisation to become involved in mentoring. Mentoring also happens in youth clubs, sports teams, hobby clubs (like a chess club, or sailing club or crafts club), churches, schools, colleges and more.
This COMENSA (who are the SAQA registered Professional Body for coaches and mentors in South Africa) registered Mentoring course will guide you through the phases in the mentoring cycle, from where you decide to be a mentor, to finding the right mentee, to setting up the paperwork, deciding on goals, getting commitment from the mentee, right to wrapping up the mentoring relationship at the end of the agreed period.
You will learn the following in this mentoring course:
- What characteristics a good mentor must hone and develop.
- What roles mentors play
- What mentors can and cannot do, must and must not do, should and should not do.
- An added feature is the fact that you will also learn to understand the dynamics of formal mentoring programmes such as those you find in organisations and corporations.
The course covers the following modules:
1. Mentoring as a concept
2. Responsibilities for Mentors and Mentees
3. Setting up formal mentoring
4. Helping mentees learn
5. Wrapping up the mentorship programmes and relationships
Study period: up to 6 months
