Course Overview

Occupational Certificate: Project Manager (SAQA ID 101869, NQF 5, 240 credits)

Project Managers are those individuals in charge of a specific project or projects within a company or a government entity. Any small- or large-scale development project requires high quality project management skills. This programme is expertly designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge needed for successful project management careers. The qualification establishes a national standard for the training of fully qualified Project Managers and is closely aligned with international best practice.  By blending theoretical principles with hands-on experience, we prepare students to effectively manage projects across various sectors. Possible career pathways include Project Manager, Project Administrator, Project Coordinator, Operations Manager, Program Manager and Proeject Risk Manager.

Study period: up to 36 months   

Work Experience

The completion of work experience is a compulsory part of the programme. Students are required to spend time in an approved workplace (approximately 75 days) completing the tasks prescribed in the Statement of Work Experience. Such work may be undertaken on a part-time/ informal basis.

This course includes a comprehensive set of learning materials.

Assessment and Award

Students will complete an assignment for each of the knowledge and practical modules. For work experience modules students are required to submit the completed Statement of Work Experience with any additional evidence required. Students who have successfully completed the knowledge, practical and work experience requirement of the qualification will be issued with a statement of results which provides entry to the final examination. The final examination or External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA) is conducted at an approved assessment centre (please note that an additional examination fee of R1 000 is payable).

Students who have successfully completed the EISA will be awarded the Occupational Certificate: Project Manager (SAQA ID 101869, NQF 5, 240 credits), issued by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO).

Entry Requirements

National Senior Certificate (NSC)/ National Certificate Vocational NCV/ NQF Level 4 qualification with Mathematical Literacy and English Communication.
