Course Overview

Occupational Certificate: Supply Chain Practitioner (SAQA ID 110942, NQF level 5, 180 Credits)

Qualified Supply Chain Practitioners are critical to the on-going performance and improvement of South African supply chain systems in both the public and private sectors. This programme is designed to equip students with knowledge, practical skills and work experience to operate as a supply chain practitioner. A supply chain practitioner is a professional who specialises in managing and optimising the flow of goods, services, and information from the point of origin to the point of consumption. Their role involves coordinating various activities such as procurement, production, logistics, and distribution to ensure that products are delivered efficiently and cost-effectively. Competent students will be able to develop, coordinate and execute operational schedules for supply chain operational plans. Possible career pathways include Supply Chain Manager, Logistics Manager, Purchasing Manager, Inventory Manager, Distribution Manager, Warehouse Manager and Transportation Manager.

Study period: up to 24 months   

Work Experience

The completion of work experience is a compulsory part of the programme. Students are required to spend approximately 45 days at an approved workplace completing the tasks prescribed in the Statement of Work Experience. Such work may be undertaken on a part-time/ informal basis.

Assessment and Award

Students will complete an assignment for each of the knowledge and practical modules. For work experience modules students are required to submit the completed Statement of Work Experience with any additional evidence required. Students who have successfully completed the knowledge, practical and work experience requirement of the qualification will be issued with a statement of results which provides entry to the final examination. The final examination or External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA) is conducted at an approved assessment centre (please note that additional examination fee of R1 000 is payable).

Students who have successfully completed the EISA will be awarded the Occupational Certificate: Supply Chain Practitioner (SAQA ID 110942, NQF Level 5), issued by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO).

Entry Requirements

NQF Level 4 qualification (National Senior Certificate or equivalent) with Mathematical Literacy.
